Every Family Deserves to Be Welcomed

Pride Month is a time to celebrate love, visibility, and the courage it takes to live authentically. As a birth doula, and someone who spent nearly 20 years as a public school administrator, it's also a time for me to reflect on what it means to show up fully for every family I serve. In those two decades in schools, I worked alongside countless queer families, and what I witnessed, over and over, was the same fierce, devoted love that every good parent brings to raising a child. That experience shaped me, and it shapes how I practice today.

Birth is one of the most vulnerable experiences a person can go through. You deserve a doula who sees you — your whole family, your full story — and meets you there without hesitation or judgment. Whether you are a same-sex couple, a transgender parent, a single parent by choice, or any configuration of love and commitment, you deserve a fully supported and respected birth experience just as much as anyone else.

Honoring Pride Month isn't just about putting a rainbow on my website. It means doing the work: learning the language that affirms your identity, understanding the specific ways the medical system has historically failed LGBTQ+ families, and making sure that from your first consultation to the moment your baby is born, you feel safe, respected, and celebrated.

Queer families are not different from any other family. You love your children fiercely. You show up for each other. You deserve dignity, support, and joy in the birth space.

I am proud to be your doula.
